Finding a Better Work Life Balance
4th April 2022After a really tough few months, I’ve realised I need to adjust my work/life balance and how I prioritise my mental health. Just making a few small changes has really improved things for me personally, and I think it’s something we can all do to help ourselves.
Here are the 3 small changes I’ve made to find a better work & life balance:
1. Found Help
One of the most important aspects of my small business, is promoting my work and products online. While this can be enjoyable, it really is its own full time job in itself, which can be so difficult. Especially as most of my followers come online in the evenings, from 6pm onward. I find it almost impossible to stay active online from this time, and exhausting to even think about promoting myself. I have a young child, and that time of evening is focused on bath time, bedtime stories, and settling down for the night. After all that, the last thing I want to be doing is being stuck on my phone working. So I recently decided to hire someone just for a few hours a week, to help me with my social media. Very small tasks, like keep my stories active on Instagram, promote my work, and reply to comments, etc. But this has helped me SO MUCH already, and improved my mental health. I feel so good knowing I’m still getting the essentials done, but that I can take time to relax of an evening. It’s been a game changer!
2. Taking time off at the weekends
At the weekends, I prioritise family time. This is when my husband is home, and my son isn’t in nursery. So we all do things together as a family, and I focus on making good memories! I still do work here and there, but it definitely isn’t the top priority and this has been monumental in improving my work and life balance.
3. Make time for my own creative pursuits
As someone who runs a creative business, it can be hard monetising your creative projects all the time. Which is why I purposely put time into creative hobbies that I know I’m not aiming to sell, or even share at all. They’re just for me! It helps me feel so good, and it’s something I find really important.
I’ve also found it helpful to chill out and play some games when I have a chance!
