Booking A Short Break Away With BuyAGift*

7th October 2018

As many of you may know if you follow me on Instagram already; last week Gary and I took a little trip to Bristol for the night. I was very kindly offered to try out* to choose an experience I’d like, and see how it was. When looking over their website, I was THRILLED to see they offer a little something for everyone. There are an adventure and adrenaline-fuelled days out, spa days, afternoon tea experiences, driving, food and drink gifts, and so much more! Since I’m pregnant, I’m pretty limited as to what I can do (although the hot air balloon rides look amazing!!) – but I saw they have a huge selection of short break gifts which was perfect.

So after a little mooching around, we decided to book the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel for the night. With a 4 star rating, dreamy photographs, and ideal location in the heart of Bristol; we knew it was a winner! Gary and I have loved Bristol each time we have visited, and it’s somewhere I’ve wanted to explore more, so we were really excited! Booking couldn’t have been easier; we simply called up the hotel and gave in our gift voucher from BuyAGift, and we were set! It even included breakfast for the following morning.

I have to begin by saying, the only thing that went wrong for us, was that I got a terrible bug just before we left for this trip! It couldn’t have been timed worse, unfortunately, but I was determined to have a good time.

We arrived in Bristol late afternoon, and checked into the beautiful hotel where we greeted by lovely staff, and a very pretty room! In fact, I was really impressed with the look and style of the whole hotel. From the outside, it seemed small, but once in it seems to go on forever; with winding hallways, high ceilings and a unique art deco feel throughout. The artwork scattered around every floor, hallway and room was a dream come true for me – colourful, fun, loud, and messy! Very me.

Shortly after check-in, we went out exploring the area and couldn’t have been happier with the location we were in. In the heart of all of the main restaurants, bars, shops and pretty sights; everything was in reach. Beautiful architecture paved the surroundings, and it was lovely to be so close to the river with all the pretty boats around (I love that there were bars on boats!). All very Instagrammable basically!

There are plenty of other places to stay in Bristol too. Including the most impressive serviced apartments in Bristol, which is great if you want to stay a little longer and need short term accommodation. I could definitely see myself moving and being able to work from a serviced apartment for a week or even longer. They have some super stylish ones which again are super Instagrammable! You could shoot content inside of one.

Gary and I enjoyed some shopping, getting photographs and just having time off together, before deciding to go get a nice meal somewhere. We chose San Carlo’s as it was the closest Italian to our hotel, and Italian is our FAVOURITE thing ever. And OH MY GOD – It was glorious! I’m now writing this blog post up a week later, still dreaming of the pasta dish I had and practically salivating. It was hands down the best Italian I’ve ever had, and Gary agreed too! there were plenty of options for Vegetarians, so he was really pleased. All washed down with a nice wine (and fruit juice for me) surrounded by fairy lights and beautiful marble decor, it was the perfect ending to the evening.

After our meal, we enjoyed a little stroll around before heading back to the hotel. We decided to check out the hotel bar, ‘Keepers’ and enjoy a few drinks before calling it a night. The bar is just as aesthetically pleasing as the rest of the hotel, and the bee/honey theme throughout was fun. Gary enjoyed a few honey rum concoctions while I had to settle for lemonades (darn it!).

We spent a few hours there, and it just felt so bloody nice to relax, enjoy time together, and not having anything else to think about. We put the world to rights, and I couldn’t have chosen a nicer way to get some alone time before the baby arrives.

The next day, we planned on exploring Bristol for the day, and having a whole adventure around the city. Unfortunately my cold had progressed to a full on bug; leaving me shakey, weak, sick, and exhausted. We had to leave early and head home so I could look after myself, and I was so disappointed – but these things happen. We still had an absolutely wonderful time, and I was really grateful to for providing us with this short break.

I’d thoroughly recommend checking out their site to see whats on offer, especially with Christmas just around the corner; as it really does make a special change for gift giving! the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel is also somewhere I’d highly recommend staying, and if you do – definitely go to San Carlo’s restaurant!! 🙂
