Working as a small business owner is a lot different than many people imagine, behind the scenes.
Many people seem to think I spend a lot of time just ‘doodling’, and that it isn’t exactly a demanding job. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Drawing is such a small part of my job, and even for a tiny business like myself; things can be very intense schedule wise. You have to constantly be working on new things, thinking of the next product you’ll create, how you’ll fund it, how you can improve sales, packing orders, promoting yourself, doing loads of admin, photographing products, and somehow keeping up with boring things like finances and taxes (this always stresses me out!).
However, I absolutely love what I do. So I’m happy to work around the clock and put 100% effort into making my little biz work.
The best part though, is definitely creating new products, and bringing them to life! So I thought today I’d share the 3 products I love creating most, and why.
3 Products I Love Creating
Enamel pins
It’s probably no surprise to anyone that this is top of my list. Creating enamel pins is always a favourite of mine, and seeing the designs come to life always makes me happy. I start by sketching out ideas on my ipad, and seeing if any really grab my attention. Once I’ve made my decision, I’ll work on perfecting that design, making it as perfect as can be, deciding on a colour scheme, and creating a mock up of the pin. Then I’ll send the design to my manufacturer for a quote. We decide on the best size and finish for the pin, and then I simply have to wait a few weeks for them to arrive! As impatient as I am, it’s always worth it.
Notepads
As a big stationery nerd, notepads are definitely in my top 3 products I love creating. It’s something I absolutely LOVE buying, and creating them means I get to perfect my perfect version of them, hehe. I do obviously try offer a variety of notepads/notebooks in different paper styles and sizes for my customers. However, my personal favourite is a good A5 notepad, with a cute design and a grid pattern background. I love writing on this, I find it makes great notes for each day, or I can use it as pretty writing paper.
Canvas paintings
I’m a colourful, messy, chaotic artist at heart. So even though I do love perfecting a design for a product and working on it tirelessly, I still truly ADORE working on big abstract paintings. It’s the one time I feel I can let my hair down, and be as creative as I like on a canvas. I still work hard on these, and often a painting will take me a week or two of work before I feel it’s finished. But it never feels tedious to me. I love painting, and I love creating 100% unique pieces to hang in peoples homes. Whenever someone buys a painting from me, it feels more special than anything else!
I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little more!
Let me know what products you’d love to see from me in the future.
Lots of love!
