5 pairs of shoes that have stood the test of time

5th February 2022

Shoes are one of the most popular fashion accessories and a guilty pleasure for many. It often seems like you can never have enough of them. Although many of us have an exaggerated collection of shoes, you’ll probably find that there are actually just a few pairs that you usually wear. It goes without saying that some classic styles never go out of fashion, and if you’re wondering which ones make this list, you’re in the right place. Take a look at our list of timeless classics that you can always rely on and if you’re in need of some new footwear you can also take advantage of this OFFICE discount code to save some money with your online purchases.

Ballet Flats

These shoes became famous when fashion icon Audrey Hepburn started a new trend back in the 1940s, however, they were around long before this dating way back to the 16th century when they were designed for professional ballet dancers. They have never gone out of fashion since and are a hugely popular and versatile shoe, with a sense of elegance, grace, and style. These days you can still find classic styles like the ones worn over 50 years ago by the iconic trendsetter, as well as a huge range of more modern variations.

The leather loafer

The origins of these timeless shoes have a connection to the equestrian lifestyle of the 1950s. The simple but elegant leather shoes, usually in black or tan were completed with a metal horse bit and are said to be one of the most popular styles of all time. It’s clear that they are still very much in style today, with many models for both men and women usually sticking close to the original.

The Classic Black Pump

Known by women everywhere as the CBP this is always a reliable pair that won’t go out of fashion anytime soon. You just can’t beat the versatility of these shoes, you can literally wear them with anything from an evening dress to a pair of jeans with a smart jacket. They are very stylish and perfect for a huge range of different outfits. It’s worth investing in a comfortable pair with a heel height that suits you best.

Timberland Boots

The 1990s was an important decade in the footwear world and saw many new types of shoes that are still popular today. These include the classic Timberland boots that are ideal for winter outfits. They’re warm and practical and, of course, unisex. Unlike many other timeless shoes, this collection has not strayed far from the original, with the famous beige boot still being a top choice.

The White Sneaker

No shoe collection would be complete without a pair of sneakers, and you can’t go wrong with a plain white pair. The classic design is based on tennis shoes which of course were created specifically for the sport before becoming a fashionable item. They have obviously evolved over the years, with many sports brands offering a huge range of various styles of sneakers. They’re probably one of the most comfortable shoes around and you can match them with just about any outfit you choose.

If you love shoes, you’ll most likely already have some of these timeless classics in your wardrobe or on your feet, but if you haven’t we don’t think you’ll regret trying out one of the choices on this list. You may also be keen to follow the latest trends when it comes to footwear and a great place to start is The Daily Shoe from The New York Times magazine, with all the trending shoes straight off the runway.
